Our historical
estate

Both a historic vineyard estate, our open air “laboratory”, the playground of our winemaking team and the spearhead of a model oriented towards polyculture, Château Haut-Meyreau brings together everything that makes up the DNA of our vineyards.

From a purely historical point of view, the first traces of Château Haut-Meyreau date back to 1802, when it was a small estate of 5 hectares, a far cry from the hundred hectares currently.

Its contemporary history finds its roots in a meeting in the 1980s, that of Jean-Pierre Derouet, a young man seeking his vocation, and Jean-Claude Bernard, then owner of the estate. Their history and their special relationship are the starting point of the Vignobles Invindia as we know them today. Together, the Bordeaux winemaker and the young Loire native who came knocking with his overwhelming desire to build something started to  develop bottled sales to such a level that the estate quickly had to expand.

Jean-Pierre completely took over in 2010, accompanied by the same team, headed by Patrick Clarens, when Jean-Claude retired. He then continued the extension of the domain and acquired new properties. It was in 2018 that the transmission between Patrick and Hugues took place. Hugues has since done everything possible to make this property a reference in Entre-deux-Mers.

As the true center of the vineyards, it is at Château Haut-Meyreau that the heart of our several estates beats. A place of welcome, meeting, working and winemaking thanks to our brand-new cellar: it is an area that embodies the DNA of our vineyards.

Cépages & terroir

The terroirs of Château Haut-Meyreau are very diverse, and the use of its 110 hectares has been thoughtfully planned to make the most intelligent and respectful use of the land. This variety is due to the location of the estate’s parcels, which are scattered across kilometers around the winery.

Historically, Merlot has always been king in this part of the Bordeaux region, and it currently represents the majority of red plantings, followed by Cabernet Franc. As for the whites, Sauvignon reigns supreme on the estate's limestone terroirs.
